                                                                        Analysis

This project was much more fun than writing a paper. It took longer and required more work, but it was very beneficial because I learned much more than I would have by writing a paper. Having to connect ancients times to modern day helps me create new ways of thinking. I enjoyed researching my topic because it was interesting to see how it has changed and also stayed the same. Even though we had lots of work during this project it was extremely fun and helpful to do.

What I Learned

                                                                  What I Learned

During this project I learned a lot about ancient and modern local food production. In Ancient Egypt agriculture was their main local production of food. Something that astounded me was how much grain the Egyptians could actually produce. There were over 5 million people in Egypt at the time and each person got over 11 hundred pounds of grain annually. I always knew agriculture and local food production was effective, but that statistic makes one realize how effective it really was. I also learned during this project how important local food production is in today's world. If more people bought their produce locally we could save thousands of dollars and put more money into local food production which would inflate that market and creating new jobs. Buying locally has countless upsides and this project helped show me them.
The research part of the project took the most time of anything I did, but it helped me realize how important time management was. With our deadline on Wednesday, I decided to do all of the Egyptian part of my presentation and research on Monday and then do the Modern part of the presentation and research on Tuesday. Setting deadlines for yourself is important because it helps you prioritize and not be able to procrastinate. I did not really work with others on this project, but doing it all by myself helped show me how much of a luxury it is to be able to split work up within a group.

The Search

December 11
This was the first day that we worked on our projects. I spent class just reasearching my topic and looking at a few websites which ended up actually being some of my main sources. I used Wikipedia just to get an overview of Egyptian agriculture, but it had a lot of very helpful information.

December 15
This was the second day of in class reasearch which was very helpful. I spent this class doing the Egyptian half of my research and keynote. I went to a few different websites to find out more about ancient Egyptian agriculture.

December 16
This was the third day of in class research and I focused on the modern day part of my presentation and research. I went to five websites which all gave me great information which helped me create my presentation.

What I Want to Know

1.) How much does the average person spend on produce a year?

2.) What other positive things did local food production do for Egypt?

3.) How many jobs could local food production create?

What I Already Know

In Ancient Egypt they grew nearly all their food and thrived off it. There were over 5 million people in Egypt and every person had over 11 hundred ponds of grain. The local growing maximized production and minimized cost of the things they grew which included wheat, barley, and melons.
In today's world we usually do not grow our own food which results in higher costs and chemically modified foods being bought.

Thesis

Ancient Egypt shows that local food production was beneficial to the communty. Communities in today's world could save thousands of dollars a year.
